Ritta's Sewing

Henrietta Gardner, known as Ritta to her friends, was highly regarded for her status in the Dixontown community as well as her skilled ability as a seamstress and quilter.

Some of the most prized possessions of the Gardner family are the textiles that Ritta sewed for her family.  A sundress and a number of extraordinary quilts are just some of the items Ritta made that have survived through today.

Gardner Family Photo Album

While this digital exhibit focuses on the material culture of the homestead and community Reverend Matt Gardner built -- meaning all of the things and objects bought, made, used, altered, and created by Reverend Matt and his family -- we always want to remember the people whose stories we are trying to learn by looking at and learning about these objects. This "photo album" contains photographs of Reverend Matt, Henrietta, and their extended family.
